Why We Love Claudia's Traitors Style

What is it about Claudia Winkleman's Traitors style that has so caught the imagination? Scotland in the summer is hardly conducive to high fashion and yet for the handful of hours Claudia wise-cracks and smirks her way around the round table, those of us of a certain age (I'm 53, like Claudia) we are transfixed by what oversized layering concoction her stylist might dream up next. I was feeling glum about the end of summer and rather resentful of autumn outfits, until the Traitors theme tune started up. Claudia appeared in her ruffle blouse and military style jacket and suddenly I was looking forward to cosy nights in by the fire.
This season, I've been yelling at the telly at every plot twist and turn, but am equally as fascinated by how hard one orange mother of three is rocking a pair of standard black leggings and a studenty jumper.

The clue is in the Scottish weather. Claudia, unlike some of the players, doesn't do summer dressing in Traitors, all her outfits are geared towards the cold and windy. Her practical footwear, fingerless gloves and sensible tweeds give Guy Fawkes Night rather than cocktails in the library, while the girlier tulle skirts and lacey cuffs are more of a nod to Hallowe'en. And isn't that what we do so well in the UK? Winter dressing is so much easier with all the layers and dark colours - not many people fret about pale legs and untoned arms in November.
Then there's the accessibility of the CW Traitors wardrobe; it's created by stylist Sinead McKeefry with mostly designer pieces that's for sure, but you probably own a few very similar items already. Roll neck knits, fingerless gloves, old school loafers - core stuff. It's all in the styling of course (you've heard me mention how handy it is to have a personal stylist...) and yet, accessorising is kept to a minimum - no jewellery or bags here - and the Spanx leggings and platform ankle boots are worn on repeat.

I'll tell you why we love Claudia's Traitors style. It's because we are all Claudia. Who doesn't want to be warm and comfortable and yet still stylish? To simply throw on a jumper and boots and still look effortlessly modern and polished? To choose a cream tutu for a walk in the woods on a grey day just because?
In Traitors CW gives us faith that we can.
I am and have always been, a Faithful.
